A Visual Diary for #Taipals #Taiwon – get it? ‘

See Taipei from where I stood.

I was a bit doubtful about Taiwan as a tourist destination. I didn’t know what to expect because truth be told, I’ve never heard a thing about it. Though I’ve been to HongKong and Macau, Taipei was quite different to my eyes.

From the airport, it was about a 40min drive to our hotel in Zhongzheng district – Hotel B7 Journey. 40mins was enough for speculations. The smog draped horizon from our taxi window looked bleak, and the city had an ominous feel to it. My expectations were dropping by the minute – we left our luggages to the room and we decided to go out for a quick stroll. Despite the fact that it was already 3am at the time, we were eager to get a taste of the locality.

One thing I immediately noticed about the Taiwanese is that they wouldn’t make you feel like you’re a foreigner in their country (until they actually speak to you in Chinese. Ha!). They seemed to be very open with other cultures. You can do your own thing and they would simply respect it (tried-and-tested). Personally, I never liked the attention tourists tend to attract so it really was a refreshing change. It was like a home away from home. The experience was welcoming and beautiful. I fell in love with the people, the food, and the collective culture. It’s not what I had in mind, it was better! Here are Top 10 Things to Experience in Taipeijust in case you were wondering.

Enjoy!

Warning: The next photos you’ll see is a proof of: “You can do your own thing and they would simply respect it.” Yup! It’s us 7am in the morning, intoxicated and without sleep, flowers and groceries on our hand, cameras and speakers on the other. We fed and chased the birds and squirrels, &we danced and sang like no one was watching. It was our way of celebrating my friend’s birthday (which btw, has her own blog as well! Check her Flip-Flop Garden Hostel: My Stay in Taipei for PHP 898!.) A trip truly worth treasuring!
